Pool Surrounds Sunshine Coast

Poolside Elegance That Lasts

Your pool is the centrepiece of outdoor living on the Sunshine Coast, and the surround should match that standard.

I'm Adam Sutton, and I've been crafting pool surrounds across the Sunshine Coast for over 17 years. A pool surround isn't just about aesthetics. It needs to handle slips, heat, chemicals, and constant sun exposure, but also beautiful enough to complement your outdoor space.

That’s the balance I get right every time. Beautiful finishes and built to last, from a QBCC-licensed professional who genuinely cares about the result.

The Smart Choice

for Poolside Areas

Durability

Concrete pool surrounds withstand decades of chlorine exposure, UV radiation, and Queensland weather without the fading, shifting, or degradation you'll see with pavers or timber.

Safety

Non-slip finishes like exposed aggregate and broom textures provide excellent grip, even when wet. Essential for family pools where children are running around.

Heat Management

Light-coloured concrete reflects heat, keeping the surface cooler underfoot on hot summer days. I'll advise on colour choices that balance aesthetics with comfort.

Design Flexibility

From subtle exposed aggregate to bold coloured concrete, pool surrounds can be designed to complement your pool, landscaping, and home architecture.

Low Maintenance

Unlike pavers that shift and collect debris in joints, concrete pool surrounds are easy to clean with occasional pressure washing. No weeds, no settling.

Choose the Right Finish

for Your Pool

If you’re not sure which finish suits your space, here’s a quick rundown of what we offer and what each one is best for:

Exposed Aggregate

This is the most popular choice on the Sunshine Coast, and it's easy to see why. The textured surface handles slip resistance beautifully, and the natural stone colours give your pool area a sophisticated look that complements any pool style.

Best for: Most pools, families with children, natural landscaping

Honed Concrete

Honed concrete is ground back to reveal a polished, contemporary finish. If you've got a modern home or a resort-style pool, this one delivers that clean, high-end look you're after.

Best for: Modern homes, infinity pools, high-end properties

Coloured Concrete

Integral colour runs all the way through the concrete, so you get a consistent finish that matches with your pool tiles, landscaping, or home exterior. You can choose from sandstone tones to contemporary greys.

Best for: Modern homes, infinity pools, high-end properties

Broom Finish

A quality broom finish provides slip resistance at a lower cost than decorative options. A practical choice for budget-conscious projects or where the pool surround won't be the main feature.

Best for: Budget projects, secondary pool areas

Complete Poolside
Solutions

Pool Stairs

Pool stairs require specific attention to slip resistance, step dimensions, and integration with your pool surround. I design and build pool stairs that are safe, compliant, and aesthetically matched to your pool area.

Pool Coping

The coping edge where the surround meets the pool is both functional and aesthetic. I ensure proper water runoff, comfortable edges for sitting, and clean lines that complete the look.

Integration with

Pool Builders

I work alongside pool builders regularly, or can come in as a standalone after installation. Either way, clear coordination is part of how I work.

How It All Works

From first visit to finished surround, here’s what you can expect when you work with me.

Site Assessment

I visit your property to assess the pool area, discuss your design preferences, measure accurately, and identify any drainage or access requirements. For new pools, I can coordinate timing with your pool builder.

Design & Quote

Based on the assessment, I provide a detailed quote covering preparation, concrete, finishing, and any additional features like stairs or coping. Clear pricing with no surprises.

Preparation

Site preparation includes excavation, compaction, reinforcement placement, and formwork. Proper preparation ensures a level, crack-resistant result.

Pour & Finish

Concrete is poured and finished according to your chosen style. For exposed aggregate, the surface is washed to reveal the stone at the right time for
best results.

Curing & Care

Pool surrounds need appropriate curing time before full use. I advise on timing and recommend sealing to protect your investment long-term.

Common Questions About Pool Surrounds

When should pool surrounds be installed?

Generally after the pool shell is complete but before final landscaping. If you’ve got a pool builder on the job, I can coordinate timing directly with them to keep everything running smoothly.

How long before we can use the pool surround?

Light foot traffic is fine after 48 hours, and you can move furniture back in after about 7 days. I’ll advise based on conditions at the time.

What’s the best finish for a pool surround?

Exposed aggregate is the most popular choice - it offers great slip resistance, stays relatively cool, and looks great. That said, I'll discuss options based on your priorities and budget.

Do pool surrounds need sealing?

Sealing is highly recommended. It protects against chlorine, UV exposure, and staining while making cleaning a lot easier.

Can you match existing concrete?

In most cases, yes. If you're extending an existing surround, I can work to match or complement what’s already there.
